Sock Tawk Class - Saturday, June 14 - 10:00 - 2:00
Tracie and Jodi are huge fans of hand knitting socks. They believe there’s no substitute for wearing a beautiful woolly pair that hug your feet and that you’ve created yourself! This workshop is all about the humble and fabulous classic stockinette sock. We will learn about getting the perfect fit by exploring different cast ons, cuffs, heels and toes. We will also demystify some techniques that may seem intimidating at first, but are quite simple and definitely fun once you dive in. Cut our knitting, fold a hem, add embroidery (and more)? Yes! We will do all of this together and take your favorite vanilla socks to the next level using lots of simple, creative ideas. You will leave with so many tips, tricks and techniques to add into all of your sock knitting projects.
This is a 3-hour class with two instructors.
CLASS MATERIALS
- 2 SETS 3.5mm or 4 mm/US 4 or 6 needle. We highly recommend Magic Loop knitting for these techniques, the flexible DPN needles are also very good. Regular DPNs can work but are a bit more challenging.
- knitters’ basic toolbox including tapestry needle, scissors, stitch markers etc.
- 3 or 4 small balls DK yarn that contrast with your homework sock tube (5-10g is plenty)
SOCK TAWK HOMEWORK:
For homework, please knit 2 stockinette stitch tubes using DK weight yarn as a canvas for our sock tawk workshop techniques.
One tube is complete and bound off, the other will be completed in class and should have live stitches either on the needle or held on waste yarn.
Use your preferred method for knitting in the round. Flexible DPN's and magic loop will work best for our class.
CLASS SWATCH DIRECTIONS:
Use DK weight yarn in a light to medium color. Dark colors are harder to see stitches.
